The current situation and consequences of the economic and financial crisis facing Lebanon as the holy month of Ramadan approaches

In March 2022, the Lebanese government issued the first multidimensional poverty index in Lebanon
based on data from the 2018-2019 household living standards survey on 19 indicators, distributed
across 5 dimensions: health, education, financial well-being, infrastructure, and living standards.
The result was that in 2019 (i.e. before the crisis), 53.1 percent of the population in Lebanon lived in
multidimensional poverty. On the other hand, according to UN studies released in early 2023, more
than 85 percent of the population in Lebanon lives below the poverty line, at an average of two dollars
