Lebanon’s Displaced Children Can’t Afford More Disruption to Their Education!

According to a statement prepared by NGOs including URDA, the conflict in southern Lebanon has exacerbated the crises already disrupting education for the country’s most marginalized children and youth. Over 34,000 children have been forced to flee their homes, schools, and communities in search of safety.

With 72 schools now closed, including public schools and technical/vocational institutes, around 20,000 children have seen their schooling interrupted for the 5th year. Even as the government works to provide online learning and emergency hub schools, existing barriers like financial constraints, child labor, and mental health concerns are making it incredibly difficult for these displaced students to continue their education.

In times of conflict, we urge the Lebanese government and education donors to prioritize keeping schools open and supporting education in emergencies programs. The country’s recovery depends on ensuring no child is left behind.
