In a flimsy tent in Bellanet Al Hissa refugee camp in Akkar, North Lebanon, lives Um Hussein all alone, counting the days she will have to spend outside her homeland before leaving this world for good.
Um Hussein, who is the oldest refugee in this camp where 2021 marks her 110th birthday, talked to us with her eyes and showed us the many wrinkles on her hand as a way to tell us about the pain and misery she has witnessed during the past century. As our photographer looked at her wrinkles, he could not but think of the stories each one would tell if it could talk.
In silence sits Um Hussein in her tent looking outside at childhood, youth and hope that could be lost between the alleys of this camp if no action were taken by the humanitarian of this world.
